Short note on Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis
On earth, every organism needs food for its survival. Some animals eat plants as a source of food and some animals eat another organism as food. Similarly, plants also need food for their survival and they make their food on their own by taking sunlight as a source of energy and convert it into chemical energy. This process is called Photosynthesis. The word Photosynthesis is generally divided into two parts photo - light and synthesis - to make.
Things Need For Photosynthesis - For the photosynthesis reaction to occur there are generally three things to be needed -
- Water
- Carbon Di Oxide
- Oxygen
Check - Chloroplast in detail
- Light Dependent Reaction - As the name implies this reaction depends on light for their process. In this reaction, the light energy is converted into chemical energy as ATP & NADPH. This process occurs in the thylakoid membrane present inside Chloroplast.
- Light Independent Reaction - This reaction does not depend on light for their process. Therefore this reaction is also called a Dark Reaction. This reaction generally occurs in the stroma which is present outside of the thylakoid membrane of the Chloroplast. The final product is glucose results after the conversion of carbon Dioxide and another chemical compound.
Importance of Photosynthesis - Photosynthesis is a very important process that occurs in plants. There are following some importance of Photosynthesis -
- This process is very essential for making the balance in nature as plants take Carbon Di Oxide and in turn give Oxygen to us.
- All the products we get from plants like timber, fruit, resins, medicines are due to Photosynthesis.
- Due to this process plants are able to give food to other living organisms.
- Fruits are by-products of plants and Glucose is stored in them and provides a source of energy to all living beings.
