Parturition and its process with 3 stages
Parturition
In the world, every woman once wants to get elated with the feeling of motherhood. The desire for a child energizes every woman to pass through a very painful event of pregnancy known as Parturition.
What Is Parturition - Parturition is the biological activity in which the fully mature baby is expelled out from the uterus of the mother's body after the end of the gestation period.
Process of Parturition - The total duration of pregnancy is about 280 days after the last menstruation period of the mother. For the process of parturition, it is important for the baby to get mature which in turn secrets or releases some signals hormones for the expelling out of the baby. After release, this hormone will diffuse into the mother's blood where they cause secretion of the important hormone Oxytocin. Oxytocin stimulates the secretion of the Prostaglandin hormone which simultaneously causes the uterus to contract so that the baby can be easily expelled out and cause birth.
Labour - This is the forceful muscular contraction of the uterus that happens at the time of birth. As this process require some sort of energy along with the work that's why this process is given the name Labour. When a mother reaches the end of the gestation period the baby turns its position in which the head portion remains in downward and the legs portion remains upwards. The labor starts after the completion of the gestation period which causes Labour pain in the body.
Stages of Parturition - There are three stages of Parturition -
- Dilation - It is the period that lasts long about 12 hours in which regular peristaltic contraction occurs in the pelvis that causes the movement of the fetus downwards. At this moment the amnion and chorion membranes break out and fluid lubricates the vagina. The fetal placenta is also pulled out from the uterine wall and in this way makes the young one free.
- Expulsion - It lasts long about 20 minutes to one hour. In this period the abdominal wall along with the uterus contract continuously which dilates the vagina and cervix and due to this contraction, the baby is expelled out to the outside world where he draws his first breath.
- Placental - It is the afterbirth period that occurs for just 10 -45 minutes in which the uterus begins to shrink. The placenta becomes free from the implantation site. The placenta, umbilical cord, and fetal membranes are expelled by another series of contractions of the uterus.
Prevention Of Bleeding - The contraction of the uterus further closes the cervix and prevents excessive bleeding in the mother.
Normalization Of The Uterus - After 28-35 days the uterus returns to its normal shape and the size and restoration of endometrium also start in the mother body.
